When support volume tells the release story
Application metrics can look calm while the phones light up. Treating support themes as a first-class impact signal closes that gap.
Support queues often surface release impact before graphs do — especially for wording changes, permission shifts, or flows that confuse only a subset of users.
Tag tickets against the release from day one. A free-text search three weeks later will miss the pattern. Train the front line on two or three tags, not twenty.
Look at themes, not only totals. A flat ticket count can hide a surge in one journey offset by a quiet period elsewhere.
Compare against the same days of the week in the baseline. Mondays are rarely like Thursdays for consumer applications in the UK.
Bring a support lead into the post-release review. Their examples ground the numbers in the language customers actually used.
